Scripture: John 8:30-59
Jesus returned to the temple a second day and spoke to the people. The first day Jesus’ words were rejected. The second day, through human eyes, things seemed to turn around. John 8:30 “As he spoke these words, many believed on him.” However, Jesus knew better. They were giving Him lip service only. They said they believed while, in truth, they did not.
Jesus’ words sounded “good” to them and they wanted to be on the “Jesus band wagon,” but that is as far as it went. Jesus explained what if they truly believed in Him, they would continue in His Word and “then” they would be His disciples, and that they would know the truth and that the truth would make them free (v 32).
Like many professing Believers today, the Jews affirmed that they believed in Jesus (“Oh, yes, yes, I believe that. Praise the Lord!”), but were offended by the TRUTH (wanted to kill Jesus because it brought to light their sin). They responded by assuring Jesus they were Abraham’s seed; all the while claiming they were not and never had been in bondage (v 33). Have you ever responded to conviction like this?
Warriors and Brethren, proclaiming you are SAVED won’t save you. The fact is that “IF” (big “IF”) God’s Word has no place in you and you are in opposition to His commands, your salvation is counterfeit.
Salvation not only brings about repentance but change. You cannot hold onto the world, while professing to be saved and believe that God is okay with your “friendship with the world,” because you throw around the phrase, “I am under grace.” That is a lie from the pit of Hell. The Enemy comes to STEAL (the truth of God’s Word, all of God’s blessings, etc.), KILL (keep you from TRUE salvation) AND DESTROY (your desire to read God’s Word, your willingness to follow and obey God’s Word, and anything else you give him legal right to destroy)! If you think as a Believer it’s okay to frequent bars, drink until you are drunk and call Uber to take you home (Ephesians 5:18), you are deceived by the Enemy and the truth is not in you. If you think you can dress like the world [wear form-fitting, cleavage displaying, seducing clothing] as a Believer and that it’s okay with Jesus (1 Timothy 2:9-10), you are deceived by the Enemy and the truth is not in you. We are not called to please ourselves, but instead, to submit to God.
Jesus rebuked the Jews, not because they didn’t say all the right things, but because their hearts were full of evil. Do you think that Jesus won’t rebuke you? Have you quenched the Holy Spirit for so long that now He is silent? Do you think the Holy Spirit’s silence gives you carte blanc to sin?
John 8:37 “I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word HATH NO PLACE IN YOU.”
Do you claim to believe God’s Word but your actions prove otherwise? Saying the words are easy? Do you DISOBEY God’s word and afterward make excuses for SIN? Do you allow the Enemy to convince you that sin is no problem when he comes to you with things like: “You’re saved. You’re not doing anything wrong. You love God. God knows your heart. You are under grace.” If you aren’t convicted by the Holy Spirit when you think and say these kinds of things, then you aren’t saved. Period. People we need to wake up. Jesus is coming back soon. How will He find you?
Jesus is an emancipator [to free from restraint, control, the power of another, etc.] of sin, not an enabler of sin!!
John 10:27 [Jesus said] “My sheep know me and they hear my voice and they follow me.” He didn’t say, “They hear a sermon once in a while, do their own thing and it’s okay with me.” Whose voice are you listening to? Do you really love the truth? Could it be possible that you are relying on the Enemy’s lies to save you? The Word of God is FILLED with scripture exposes every lie of the Enemy.
There is no security, no truth in any thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). When thoughts come (wherever they come from – even from the pulpit) that do not line up with God’s Word, obey God’s command that tells us to “cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”! If it doesn’t align with God’s Word, there is no security -- no truth -- in it! If you’re hearing unscriptural messages from the pastor of the church you are attending, find another church. Leave Babylon and don’t look back.
When the Jews told Jesus they were not in bondage, they were lying to the Son of God! Jesus told them that whoever commits sin is the servant of sin (v 34). The next statement Jesus made, I doubt they understood at all: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (v36).” What a revelation they just missed! They were spiritually blind and could not understand the truth Jesus spoke. Jesus pointed out that they sought to kill Him and that there was no place for His word (the truth) in them (v 37).
